About Tally
Tally is a form builder that works like writing a document. Instead of dragging fields around a complex editor, you type on a blank page and insert questions, text and images with slash commands, which makes creating a form feel as quick as writing a note.
Its other defining feature is a generous free plan. Tally allows unlimited forms and unlimited submissions for free, including features that many competitors reserve for paid tiers, such as conditional logic, hidden fields, file uploads, payments through Stripe, calculations and embedding. That combination has made it a favourite of startups, indie makers, creators and teams that need many forms without many subscriptions.
The form types it supports cover most needs: contact and lead forms, surveys, quizzes with scoring, applications, registrations, feedback forms, order forms and multi-page workflows with branching. Forms can be embedded on websites, shared by link or opened as pop-ups, and responses flow into Tally's dashboard or connect to Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Slack, webhooks, Zapier and Make. The design is clean and minimal by default, with custom styling and branding available.
Tally Pro, the paid plan, adds things like removing Tally branding, custom domains, team collaboration, partial submissions and advanced customisation. The trade-offs are that very complex enterprise requirements - advanced approval workflows, extensive compliance features or large-scale survey research tools - are better served by specialised platforms.
Alternatives include Typeform for highly polished conversational forms; Google Forms for free basic forms within Google Workspace; Jotform for a vast template library and enterprise features; Fillout for forms deeply connected to Notion and Airtable; Formbricks, open source, for product surveys; and SurveyMonkey for survey research.
Choose Tally when you want fast, flexible forms with a free plan that does not cap your usage. Choose Typeform when the most polished respondent experience justifies the price.
