About NocoDB
NocoDB is an open-source platform that turns databases into collaborative spreadsheets. It connects to databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL, or uses its own built-in storage, and presents the data in a familiar spreadsheet-style interface where teams can view, edit, filter and share records without writing SQL.
It is widely positioned as an open-source alternative to Airtable. Airtable's spreadsheet-database hybrid is popular but proprietary, priced per user and subject to record limits on its plans. NocoDB offers a similar experience - grid, gallery, kanban, form and calendar views, field types such as attachments, links and formulas, and sharing and collaboration - while letting organisations self-host it and keep data in their own database.
Connecting to an existing database is a distinctive capability. Teams with data already in Postgres or MySQL can put a usable interface on it for colleagues who do not write queries, without migrating anything. NocoDB also automatically generates REST APIs for tables, which developers can use to build integrations and applications on the same data, and webhooks and automations connect it to other tools.
Self-hosting is free, with a cloud version and enterprise features available for teams that want managed hosting, advanced permissions, audit logs and support. Because it is open source, it is common in organisations with data-sovereignty requirements and among developers who want a lightweight admin interface for their databases.
The trade-offs relative to Airtable are polish and ecosystem: Airtable has more mature automations, interfaces, integrations and templates, and self-hosting adds operational responsibility. Very large datasets depend on how well the underlying database is configured.
Alternatives include Airtable, the commercial leader; Baserow, another open-source no-code database; Teable, a newer open-source option built on Postgres; Grist, open source with spreadsheet formulas; SeaTable for self-hosted collaboration; and Retool for building internal tools on databases.
Choose NocoDB when you want an Airtable-like interface you can self-host, or a friendly front end for an existing database.
