DEVRlAN is a privacy-first browser workspace built for developers who need fast, practical utilities for everyday technical tasks. Instead of jumping between multiple websites, developers can use a focused collection of browser-based tools in one place. DEVRlAN provides utilities for JSON formatting and validation, JWT debugging, Base64 encoding and decoding, UUID generation, Regex testing, URL encoding, hashing, and other common developer workflows. The goal is to make these small but frequent tasks faster and easier without adding unnecessary complexity. Privacy is a core part of the product. Whenever possible, processing happens locally in the browser rather than sending sensitive input to a remote server. This makes DEVRlAN useful for working with data that developers may not want to upload to third-party services. The platform is free to use and does not require an account or installation. Developers can open a tool, complete the task, and return to their work without setting up another service. DEVRlAN is being built as an independent developer project with a focus on useful browser-native utilities, simple workflows, and privacy-conscious design. The open source Firebase alternative

Supabase is an open-source backend platform built on Postgres, giving a project a hosted database, authentication, file storage, edge functions, and realtime subscriptions behind one set of client libraries - without asking you to give up SQL or the ability to leave. The founding insight is that Postgres already does most of what a backend-as-a-service claims to add. Row-level security is a Postgres feature, not a Supabase one; the auto-generated REST API is derived from your schema; realtime is built on the database's replication stream. That means the product is a set of well-integrated conveniences layered over a database you could operate yourself, rather than a proprietary datastore with an API in front of it. Your data lives in ordinary Postgres tables, you can connect any SQL client, and migrating away is a pg_dump rather than a rewrite. For a startup, this resolves the usual tension in the build-versus-buy decision. A managed backend gets you to a working product in days, but historically that speed was paid for later, when the abstraction stopped fitting and there was no way out. Supabase's answer is that the escape hatch is the database itself. Auth handles email, magic links, OAuth providers, and multi-factor; storage handles uploads with the same permission model; edge functions run server-side logic close to users. Pricing is freemium with a free tier generous enough to run a real side project, then usage-based paid tiers. Because the platform is open-source, self-hosting is a genuine option rather than a marketing claim. The comparison most founders make is with Firebase, and the difference is the data model: Firebase is document-oriented and proprietary, Supabase is relational and portable. If your data has relationships - and most application data does - SQL will serve you better as the product grows. Against Neon or PlanetScale, Supabase is a broader platform rather than a pure database, which is an advantage early and a constraint if you only wanted the database. Against building on AWS directly, you trade fine-grained control for a working backend on day one. Choose it when you want to move fast without accepting lock-in as the price.
