Two limitations worth knowing. Commercial use and voice ownership are governed by the plan you are on and the consent you can prove for a cloned voice, so read the terms before you clone anything that is not yours. And output quality degrades with sloppy input: punctuation, paragraph breaks and phonetic spellings for names do most of the work in getting a good read. Against OpenAI's speech models and the big-cloud engines from Google, Amazon and Microsoft, ElevenLabs generally wins on expressiveness and loses on price at very high volume. PlayHT and Murf are the closest direct competitors, with Murf leaning further into a video-editing workflow. Resemble AI is the one to look at when you need on-premise or tightly controlled voice data. Choose it when the audio is the product and it has to sound like a person. Choose a cloud engine when you need cheap, functional narration at scale.
